Could Aaron Paul have been a denizen of Gotham City? The Breaking Bad star reveals that he had to turn down a role in one of Christopher Nolan’s Batman films.
Aaron Paul is truly one of the most beloved actors on television. While he got his start playing Jesse on Breaking Bad, his stride hasn’t stopped since the show ended, taking on truly iconic rules such as Todd Chaves on Bojack Horseman and Powerplex in Invincible. Despite this, Paul hasn’t had much of a presence on the silver screen, with his biggest role being the lead in a Need for Speed film.
Yet it seems the actor was close to working with one of the greatest cinematic minds of the time. When speaking with ScreenRant recently, Aaron Paul revealed that he was actually offered a role in one of Christopher Nolan’s Batman films. However, due to prior obligations, he was forced to turn down the offer to join the DC pantheon.
“I sat down with Christopher Nolan on another project. This was years ago. I think it was for Interstellar, but I was offered a very small role – you’re literally just reminding me of this – in one of the Batman movies he was doing. I was literally shooting another project, and I couldn’t do it. It was a tiny, tiny, tiny role – but I don’t care.”
Aaron Paul Still Loves Batman
While it’s a shame that Aaron Paul was forced to turn down working with a director as influential as Christopher Nolan, it seems as though this didn’t dampen his love for the DC Universe. The actor goes on to remark that it would have been incredibly fun to appear in a Batman film, even for a small role, and that the classic incarnation of these iconic heroes still speaks to him.
“[I wanted] to be in his universe. [I’m into] classic Gotham. I love Batman. I think Batman’s probably my favorite, because he’s kind of a real guy, right? He’s just the guy with a lot of money and a lot of toys, and he’s not messing around.” Paul explained before adding. “I love Superman – I love it all. It’s just such a fun, fantastic world where the options are sort of limitless.”
“[I] just watched Dark Knight the other night. I thought about that. I was like, “‘Ah, it would have just been so cool to just be in 30 seconds of one of those movies.'”
Although Christopher Nolan has left the Caped Crusader behind, a new Batman film is in the works for the DC Universe. (Actually, two!) And given Aaron Paul’s ever-rising starpower, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him land a role in a cinematic universe sooner rather than later. At the very least, he’d be one killer Moth Man!
