‘Bumblebee’ Trailer Shows The Hunt Is On For The Volkswagen Beetle

Bumblebee Transformers Hailee Steinfeld

Every hero has a beginning. That’s why we have origin stories and prequels. But the hero’s beginning for today centers around the Autobot known as Bumblebee in the film aptly titled, well, Bumblebee. But more than that, it’s about family, about discovery, and the hunt for an apparently dangerous creature in the Transformers world.

The official trailer for the Bumblebee film hit the internet in the early hours of the morning and showcases Hailee Steinfeld’s Charlie Watson purchasing a Beetle that is, in fact, for sale. Happy birthday to her indeed. However, this is no ordinary Beetle, for when Charlie takes it home, the Beetle soon springs to life and becomes the Bumblebee we all know and love from past Transformers films.

While Charlie has no idea how this happened, she comes to befriend the Autobot, warning it that people can fear what they don’t understand, which we see in various shots of the government, and a look at John Cena’s character, and other Transformers in pursuit of Bumblebee. And if he isn’t found, the war raging on another planet could find its way to Earth. Bumblebee may not have family, but he does have Charlie.

And towards the end of the trailer we get a transmission from none other than Optimus Prime himself, warning Bumblebee that if he wants to stop war, he must protect Earth and its people. Tall task, I’m sure. Here, have a look at the trailer for yourself below.

There’s definitely a lot of heart shown in this trailer for the film, set years before the events of the original live-action Transformers films, so what do you think of the trailer so far? Are you excited for the film? Does the memory of past Transformers films taint this one for you or are you interested in the new direction? Let us know in the comments below.

Bumblebee is directed by Travis Knight and stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, and Pamela Adlon. The film will blast its way into theaters on December 20.
