Yesterday, quite possibly the most ugly election in modern U.S. history came to a close. Donald Trump is now the President-elect, beating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to become President Obama’s successor. Mr. Trump ran one of the most toxic campaigns in history, and his victory last night truly shocked the world and has left millions uncertain about where the direction of this great country goes from here on out.

Joining in on the disappointment was Captain America himself, Chris Evans. Before the race was officially called, the actor took to Twitter to voice his disappointment with the results of this election:

Nobody saw this coming. I was in absolute shock at the results last night not just because of all the countless controversies throughout the campaign trail, but because the results clearly showcased that Americans are even more divided than we thought. In retrospect, it’s pretty fitting that films like Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice were released during this election year.

But even though it’s hard to look on the bright side of these dire situations, we need to continue to persevere. Today, David Daut wrote an inspiring article to why in the heroic age of Hollywood (and now in the age of Trump), we need superheroes more than ever. We need these characters to continually inspire us to be the best person we can be. Yes, we have all been infected by fear in more ways than one – especially after the final tallies. But we must persevere. The sun still rose this morning, the holidays are just around the corner, and we have even more comic book films and television shows to be excited for in the very near future. Whether you’re Democrat or Republican, liberal or  conservative, and of course, DC fan or a Marvel fan, we must remain optimistic and commit to a better tomorrow.

Avengers assemble.
