While appearing on Star Wars writer Gary Whitta’s Animal Crossing talk show, Captain Marvel star Brie Larson revealed she would love to play Metroid hero Samus Aran.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused people to take up new hobbies, which includes writers for film and television. This has included Gary Whitta who is perhaps best known for his work on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Since the pandemic swept the United States, the Star Wars writer started up a talk show that takes place on the hit Nintendo game, Animal Crossing which has had a number of guests which now includes Captain Marvel star, Brie Larson.
While on the talk show, a number of people kept commenting on Brie Larson as Samus. Samus Aran is the primary protagonist of Nintendo’s Metroid series and is one of the first mainstream female video game protagonists. The character first appeared in the 1986 game, Metroid where at the end of the game it was revealed that the protagonist was, in fact, a woman. When the Star Wars writer asked about the comments, the Captain Marvel star revealed that she would love to play Metroid’s Samus and where the this all came from:
“I would love that so much. So I was Samus for Halloween two years…I think it was two years ago. It was like a $20 costume I bought off Amazon. It was like nothing. But I was so excited about it so I like posting a picture. I think it was on Instagram of me in the costume and it turned into this thing of people being like ‘Whoah!'”
