Catherine Keener is joining Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in the highly-anticipated Warner Bros. production Joker: Folie à Deux.

Deadline brings word that Joker: Folie à Deux has recruited Oscar-nominee Catherine Keener, describing her role as a “major” one. No further details about her character were available at press time.

Catherine Keener is best known for her work in 40 Year Old Virgin, Get Out and Being John Malkovich, the latter of which landed her an Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category. She received the same nomination for her portrayal of author Harper Lee in 2005’s Capote.

Joker: Folie à Deux is moving forward.

Joaquin Phoenix is reprising his role as Arthur Fleck for the upcoming Joker sequel, with Lady Gaga joining him as Harley Quinn. The film’s cast also includes Brendan Gleeson and Zazie Beetz.

Todd Phillips is returning to the director’s chair for Joker: Folie à Deux, working from a script he co-wrote alongside Scott Silver. Production is expected to begin this December for a October 2024 release.
