Marvel Studios’ Victoria Alonso addressed the rumors that a digital double for Chadwick Boseman might be used in Black Panther 2.

Many are still mourning the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman after a battle with cancer. However, the inevitable speculation for how Marvel Studios will carry on the legacy of the Black Panther star is starting to come up. Some feel another actor could succeed Boseman as the next Black Panther while others feel there’s no one who can take over the T’Challa role.

Rumors have also come from the wild speculation suggesting Marvel Studios might use a digital body double for Chadwick Boseman in Black Panther 2 similar to what we saw in Rogue One with Peter Cushing’s Grand Moff Tarkin. While speaking with Clarin, Marvel Studios EVP Victoria Alonso ruled out the notion of using a digital body double for Black Panther 2:

“No. There’s only one Chadwick, and he’s not with us. Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to history and what we do to honor this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really. Because Chadwick was not only a wonder … but it also seems to me that as a character what he did elevated us as a company, and has left his moment in history. I know that sometimes two months go by or three months go by in production and one says, already, it was a long time. But it is not a long time, we have to think carefully about what we are going to do, and how, and think about how we are going to honor the franchise.”
