The Gambit is coming back!

Is Gambit taking down Doctor Doom? Channing Tatum reveals a bit more details on his role in Avengers: Doomsday, including a recent scene filmed across from Robert Downey Jr.

Given how stacked the cast of Avengers: Doomsday is, there’s been a lot of questions about how some of the smaller actors fit into the story. Perhaps the biggest one of these is Channing Tatum’s Gambit, who will be reprising his role following his short cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine. Many assume that the character will be used as a pawn against the Avengers, likely not having much, if any, screen time with characters like Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom due to his status as a gag character.

However, Gambit may not be as funny as fans expect him to be in Avengers: Doomsday. Channing Tatum revealed in an interview with Variety that he toned down the character’s thick Cajun accent during production on the film. And, in doing so, he suggests that the character may have some truly serious moments in the upcoming film.

“I’m not gonna go full Cajun. [Directors Anthony and Joe Russo] want things to be funny, but they don’t want to go full Deadpool. They want to keep the drama and keep it tight. When Gambit gets serious — when he drops the Mardi Gras mask — things do matter.”

Gambit Takes On Doctor Doom

The serious nature doesn’t just extend to the character of Gambit, either. It seems as though Channing Tatum got seriously injured on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. The actor reveals that he hurt his leg while filming a fight scene against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. While he didn’t give too many details, he did tease that he’s going to try to be back in action in the coming days.

“We had tons more shooting,” Tatum explains, continuing on to say that he’s only being used for close-ups for the moment before adding that he stopped taking his medication for the day “So I wouldn’t be falling asleep on you and drooling. My body doesn’t do well with codeine — and those painkillers the U.K. docs gave me were strong.”

It’s interesting to hear that, not only will Gambit have a fight scene with Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, but his role in the fight is so big that it is taking multiple days to shoot. While Channing Tatum likely isn’t complaining about getting more checks and hanging out with people like Robert Downey Jr. while relaxing on pain meds, it’ll be interesting to see how the scene comes out in the final product next winter.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
