Is Channing Tatum coming back as Gambit?

Could Gambit be getting his own solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Channing Tatum speaks on the possibility after his cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine.

While Deadpool and Wolverine was full of familiar faces making their debut in the MCU, the cameo that sparked the most intrigue out of the internet was Channing Tatum finally making his debut as Gambit. This fulfilled a nearly two-decades-long dream of the actor to play the cajun card slinger on the silver screen.

It seems fans fell in love with Channing Tatum as Gambit as much as the actor himself did. Thousands of memes have been put onto the web quoting the hero in his ridiculous accent. With so much popularity online, fans have begun to question if his role in Deadpool and Wolverine may have been more than just a cameo.

Is Gambit Getting His Own Movie In The MCU?

With the X-Men just around the corner from taking over the MCU, fans believe Channing Tatum could be the first look at who will be playing the super team in the Sacred Timeline. When asked if a solo Gambit solo movie is possible, Tatum admitted that Marvel’s Kevin Feige was just waiting for the right time to bring him into the MCU, and there wasn’t much he wouldn’t do to cement his cameo.

“It was at Fox first,” Tatum explained to Jimmy Fallon. “And I worked on it for like six years trying to get the stand-alone to happen. And then right on the one-yard line we were about to make the movie and then Fox was bought by Disney.’

“Kevin, actually, Kevin Feige, runs Marvel, I love him so much, he literally was like ‘Look, I love Gambit. I just don’t know how to do it right now. I don’t know how he fits into what we’re doing, so I need to have a minute to figure it out.’ Now we’ve cracked a little bit of the code and hopefully…I would kill kittens…I would do lots of terrible things to make that happen.”

Hopefully, nobody has to resort to kitten stomping to get an MCU movie made. Though, if that’s the cost, someone might want to let the Blade reboot crew know that! Either way, it’s clear that Channing Tatum’s love for the role of Gambit infected fans with even just a brief cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine. So even if he doesn’t play the mutant, it’s likely the character will get some sort of spotlight by Marvel in the near future.
