Is Charlie Cox sticking around for the long haul? The Daredevil star speaks on when he’ll hang up the horns ahead of his return to the MCU.
Daredevil: Born Again is one of the most anticipated Disney Plus shows, not just in the history of the MCU, but the history of the service itself. It’s a revival of what many consider to be one of the greatest superhero shows of all time. It also features the return of some of the most beloved characters to ever grace superhero media, like Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.
The show seems to mean as much to Charlie Cox as it does to fans. When speaking on his return as the character in the MCU, he reflected on how heartbreaking it was to hear that the original series was cancelled. He also points out that, the longer he plays Daredevil, the older both of them get, which is naturally worrying for a series so renowned for its action.
“When you play a character — I’ve been playing him for 10 years — he gets older which is disconcerting,” Cox explained at Fan Expo in San Francisco. “What’s weird about it is in 2018, when the show was cancelled I had like breaking up period, a mourning period because we thought we were gonna do a Season 4 then that didn’t happen and overnight we got a phone call and it was like, ‘We’re done, it’s finished’”.
How Long Will Charlie Cox Play Daredevil?
Luckily for everyone, Charlie Cox’s story as the Man Without Fear didn’t end with the cancellation. Daredevil: Born Again is set to pick up exactly where the Netflix series left off, just with a new home and a new showrunner. Some worry that the project may simply be a way to give Cox’s hero a proper send-off. However, it seems that the actor is ready to keep playing the hero in the MCU for as long as he can.
“But like all breakups, we got back together. But now I’m aware there will presumably come a time where it really does stop happening … and the longer it goes on the harder it will be to let go of … But when I was at Comic-Con I was chatting with a couple of the Daredevil writers, comic team, and they’re getting ready to release a Daredevil comic that takes place when Matt Murdock is in his 60s, so I was like, ‘Oh, okay, great, so we’ve got some time’”.
Of course, it’s not likely that Charlie Cox will literally play Daredevil into his 60’s. It’s likely that his run as the character in the MCU will end sometime within the next decade. However, his confidence and gumption to play the hero certainly gives fans hope that the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is here to stay, at least for the current time being.
Daredevil: Born Again will release in March 4, 2025 on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
