Matt Murdock is getting an upgrade in season 2! Charlie Cox reveals why his character finally puts on the iconic black suit in Daredevil: Born Again.
One of the things people have been most excited for when it comes to Daredevil: Born Again season 2, dating all the way back to the initial set leaks last year, was the fact that Matt Murdock would finally be donning the iconic black and red Shadowland costume in live-action. And recently, Marvel Studios has been using posters and footage featuring that suit to advertise the series.
Yet one question remains on everyone’s minds – why? Why is it only now, in season 2 of the revival, that Matt Murdock is deciding to switch up his wardrobe? Charlie Cox managed to give some insight on that question during a recent interview with CBR, teasing that it’s being used to signal a much darker turn for the hero heading into the next season of Daredevil: Born Again.
“Thematically, I think it represents a much darker side to the character. But darker in the sense that he’s unable to present himself to the world in the way that he has in the past. He’s unable to be a symbol. Well, he is able to be a symbol, but he needs to go back to his roots of hiding in the shadows.”
The Darker Threats Lurking In Season 2
Fans have known ever since Daredevil: Born Again‘s freshman outing ended that season 2 would be focusing on Matt Murdock on the run (at least, in his vigilante form). However, it seems as though the series may be raising the stakes more than fans thought, with Charlie Cox suggesting a hermit-esque life for the titular hero.
“He’s being hunted — him and Karen Page are being hunted more than they’ve ever been hunted before. They are in more danger than they’ve ever been, I think. They probably stay in their safe house most of the day, and only come out at night. They’re just trying to survive.”
Given Matt Murdock is trying much harder to blend into the shadows heading into season 2, it makes sense that the character would be wearing his black suit much more often. But with the next season of Daredevil: Born Again just around the corner, fans won’t have to wait much longer to see what Charlie Cox means when he says the danger level is reaching a boiling point.
