Marvel’s Daredevil star Charlie Cox has shared his response to getting to put on the character’s classic yellow and red outfit for his appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
After a brief cameo as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is now leaping fully back into the MCU. He is due to appear in an episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney Plus before he goes on to lead the 18-episode series Daredevil: Born Again.
His upcoming She-Hulk appearance sees Cox’s Daredevil putting on a new suit and the actor recently shared his reaction to the costume change.
Charlie Cox Talks Daredevil’s Yellow Costume
Rather than the all-red suit worn in his Netflix series – or the homemade all-black suit he wore before that – Charlie Cox’s Daredevil will be dressed in his yellow suit for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
While Daredevil’s best-known costume is entirely red, when the character first debuted in the pages of Marvel comics, he wore a yellow suit with a red vest. The costume was short-lived and was replaced by his traditional red in Daredevil #7, but it still has a special place in fans’ hearts.
Charlie Cox was apparently all too aware of how much the yellow suit would mean to fans when he first saw it, revealing in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes at D23 Expo:
“Yeah, so I had to go to LA to have a fitting, and I walk in, I can say this now, I walk in, I knew I wasn’t going to wear it in Spider-Man, I knew that much. But whilst we’re doing Spider-Man, we were getting ready to do She-Hulk, and so I got to go to LA to a fitting and I walk in, and the suit is hanging there, but then there’s a picture, there’s a drawing on the wall, and it has the gold and red, and I was like ‘No way!’
“It’s funny, because when you play the character this long, you’re emotionally connected to the fans’ response. So you see something like that and it means something to you, but you know what it means, what it’s going to mean. Like, you start to have a sense of how people are going to respond to that. So I saw that, and then they come in with it, I’m like ‘Oh man, this is unreal.’”
Episode 5 of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law teased Daredevil’s imminent arrival in the series, when superhero costume designer Luke Jacobson (Griffin Matthews) was seen carrying a hat box that contained Daredevil’s yellow mask. It is not yet known if the yellow suit will be sticking around for Daredevil: Born Again.
