How ‘Thor’ Star Chris Hemsworth Helped Tom Holland Land Spider-Man Role

Spider-Man Tom Holland Thor Chris Hemsworth

Thor star Chris Hemsworth helped Tom Holland land the role of Spider-Man way back in 2016 for Captain America: Civil War.

With superheroes being the latest movie craze, every actor wants to take a stab at being a superhero. Previous Hollywood icons have taken on comic book roles but it’s hard for an unknown actor to get the part of a superhero. It seems strange looking back to the casting process for films like Captain America: Civil War, which came out only a few years ago but helped solidify actors for audiences in their roles for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One hero that Marvel fans have absolutely fallen for is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. However, when Tom Holland was being considered for the role, only a select few knew he was in contention for the role. When it came to casting Spider-Man, Tom Holland apparently had some landing the gig.

In a recent interview with  Entertainment Tonight, Thor star Chris Hemsworth spoke about how he helped Tom Holland get the part of Spider-Man. Here’s what the actor told the site:

“I mean, look, we worked on In the Heart of the Sea together, obviously, then through Avengers and as they were casting him for Spider-Man, I did what I could do and made a call and said he’s one of the most talented people I’ve worked with and has such a big heart and appreciation.”

The Thor actor then added the following about his friendship with Tom Holland.

“I don’t know, we have a great friendship, it’s a good mutual respect.”

It seems that Tom Holland had an inside man who potentially kept him in contention for the role. While I don’t think Tom Holland got the role exclusively from having worked with Chris Hemsworth, it seems that when it came down to it, the Thor star really did believe Tom Holland was the right person for the role.

Tom Holland has been praised by fans as the best on-screen Spider-Man to date, and it seems we may have more than just the Marvel executives to thank for that. It is really nice to see actors supporting each other. After all, it wasn’t so long ago that Chris Hemsworth was an unknown actor himself looking to make it big by getting a superhero role.

It seems Chris Hemsworth is potentially the man to thank for the new Tom Holland Spider-Man films. While I doubt we will see Thor and Spider-Man team up anytime soon, it is nice to see that the Marvel family takes care of its own. Additionally, fans can seemingly thank Chris Hemsworth as Spider-Man is now a character more popular than ever with the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man: Far From Home hitting theaters soon.

What did you think of Chris Hemsworth helping Tom Holland get the role of Spider-Man? Would you want to see a Thor and Spider-Man team-up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
