Is Star-Lord actually going to be in Avengers: Doomsday? Chris Pratt speaks on his return as the iconic character despite not being announced for the film’s cast.
In the lead-up to the production of Avengers: Doomsday, there were very few “sure bets” regarding who would return from the MCU’s massive cast. Almost every character was on the chopping block as the studio scrambled to find a new story revolving around Doctor Doom. In fact, the only character confirmed to ever appear again was Chris Pratt as the Legendary Star-Lord.
However, as the dreaded Day of the Chair came and went, Chris Pratt’s name was oddly absent from the Avengers: Doomsday cast role call. This changed the internet’s tune overnight, from being sure that Star-Lord would appear in the film to being convinced that the character was left on the cutting room floor. When speaking on the discourse, Pratt joked that he was “sure” his chair was just off screen from the initial announcement.
“I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off…” Pratt joked in an interview with Collider. “They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there.”
Will Chris Pratt Return As Star-Lord?
While there are mixed reports in the rumor mill, it seems as though Chris Pratt’s deal to appear in Avengers: Doomsday isn’t finalized yet. This could mean that Star-Lord truly is absent from what may be Marvel’s biggest film yet. However, that doesn’t mean the character is gone for good, with Pratt revealing that he has full intentions on fulfilling the promise at the end of his last appearance.
“I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of [Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return.”
It would be a shame if Star-Lord didn’t appear in some form in Avengers: Doomsday, as it would mean that the Guardians of the Galaxy would be entirely absent from the MCU’s biggest crossover. However, the promise that Chris Pratt will return to the universe in some way does suggest that there may be talks of a solo film if his appearance in this project doesn’t ultimately work out.
