‘Thor: Love And Thunder’ Director Says Christian Bale Plays MCU’s Greatest Villain

Will Gorr top Thanos?

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi believes Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher is the best MCU villain to date.

The first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder finally arrived later last month, and while we got our first look at Natalie Portman’s return, we didn’t get to see Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher.

While we didn’t get a glimpse at Christian Bale in the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, various marketing materials have given us an idea of what he will look like as Gorr in the film. In a recent interview for AP News, Taika Waititi had some bold words to say about Bale’s Gorr:

“It’s a great, really fun, weird little group of heroes, a new team for Thor with Korg, Valkyrie and The Mighty Thor. And, in my humble opinion, we have probably the best villain that Marvel’s ever had in Christian Bale.”

Marvel Studios notably stumbled with their villains at first but have since delivered with the likes of Thanos, Killmonger, Wenwu, Vulture, and others. In the piece, Waititi also teased the upcoming film will see Thor experiencing a “midlife crisis”:

“Thor is just trying to figure out his purpose, trying to figure out exactly who he is and why he’s a hero or whether he should be a hero. I guess you could call it a midlife crisis.”

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and Russell Crowe.

Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming Marvel Studios film, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
