The first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder has finally landed and given Marvel fans a first look at Natalie Portman suited up as the Mighty Thor.
It’s been a long wait for the first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, but now it’s finally here, bringing with it a promise of a more peaceful Thor, the return of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and a look at Valkyrie in her role as King of New Asgard. However, the biggest reveal comes right at the end. Just when it seems like Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is ready to give up the superhero lifestyle and do a bit of soul-searching, Mjolnir is seen flying through the sky in the heat of battle, only to be caught by Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor.
There’s only a fleeting glimpse of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster in her new Asgardian identity in the trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, but it’s sure to be more than enough to get fans excited. The moment reveals the reforged Mjolnir that has already been glimpsed elsewhere and the remarkably comic-accurate look for Mighty Thor, including her helmet/mask combo. It’s also clear that Portman has been building some serious muscle for the role, making her look truly worthy of the title of Mighty Thor.
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor looks distraught as he sees Portman’s Thor grabbing his old hammer. Maybe he’s not as ready to get out of the superhero game as he thought. Or maybe he just feels like he’s watching his best friend get together with his ex.
Alongside the new trailer, Marvel released the official synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn and Russell Crowe.
