Are The Batman and Clayface connected? Set photos have the internet running wild with speculation of a merger headed to the new DC Universe.
There’s been a lot of discussion in recent months about whether or not The Batman will be canon to the new DC Universe. Despite James Gunn having stated multiple times that this isn’t the case, some believe that it’s all a ploy to keep people off the scent. Though, regardless of what side of the fence one sits on, there’s a general agreement that the truth will come out once Clayface hits theaters this time next year.
Even though Clayface still has quite a bit to go when it comes to filming, let alone release, fans are already jumping to conclusions when it comes to connections between the two franchises. Many believe that set photos have already confirmed that The Batman is set in the DC Universe. The two biggest examples are GCPD using the same slogan, Sic Parvis Magna, and the mention of a street drug named Bliss.
Clayface is using the same Gotham City motto that was used in Matt Reeves’ Batman.

A newspaper article on the set of the "CLAYFACE" mentions "Bliss," the same illegal substance that is shown in the Matt Reeves series "PENGUIN," could this probably be another mention the a merge? pic.twitter.com/fqfpogAnGq

Are Clayface And The Batman Connected?
While Bliss is a rather obscure element in the DC Universe, it does exist outside of The Batman franchise. Though even if it didn’t, it’s likely that this newspaper was never meant to be studied too closely, akin to those seen in set photos from Superman. At most, it’s likely the production designers on Clayface added that detail for a “Wink and a nudge” at the other Caped Crusader.

Things look even worse on the GCPD side of things. While the motto matches, Sic Parvis Magna has been used in multiple distinct takes on the DC Universe, including the Arkham games. In addition, the actual logos used by the police department in Clayface aren’t even close to those found in The Batman, which seems like an odd change to make if the motto itself was being kept around.
Clayface is set to release September 11th, 2026. This project has not yet been confirmed by DC Studios. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
