Clayface’s name may be a bit too literal in the DC Universe! Recent set videos seem to reveal Matt Hagen’s initial transformation in the public eye.
The set videos to come out of Clayface have revealed quite a lot of interesting information about the DC Universe. Fans have learned the approximate layout of Gotham, spotted Easter Eggs of major heroes like Black Canary and Zatanna, and even revealed whether or not Battinson is canon. However, it seems as though the project’s titular villain, Matt Hagen, has been all-but missing.
While fans have spotted Tom Rhys Harries’ Matt Hagen in a handful of set pics, most notably ones showcasing what the villain looked like just before and just after his accident, fans haven’t seen much of the character in action. This makes sense, given Clayface would likely be made entirely with CGI in the DC Universe project, so most of what the crew would be capturing would likely be blank plates.
Matt Hagen’s Transformation Into Clayface
However, the latest batch of set videos may be delivering on fans’ desire to see Clayface in action. Perhaps a bit too literally. The videos show Matt Hagen walking down the red carpet, likely sometime after his disfiguring crash, before running off in fear. This likely shows the first time the public of the DC Universe sees Clayface using his powers.

Given the context of what fans have seen from Clayface so far, it’s likely this seen takes place somewhere between the midpoint and end of the second act: with Matt Hagen’s return to public life after being presumed dead spoiled by an unwieldy miscalculation of his powers. While the exact nature of the scene is yet to be seen, it certainly seems DC Universe fans are in for a treat.
