Colin Trevorrow Seemingly Throws Shade At ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Theatrical Cut

He wants people to watch the Extended Edition instead.

Jurassic World Dominion

Colin Trevorrow has seemingly thrown shade at the theatrical cut of his film, Jurassic World Dominion.

Back in June, Universal Pictures released the third and final entry in the Jurassic World trilogy, Jurassic World Dominion. The film saw the return of director Colin Trevorrow behind the camera, who previously directed the 2015 record-breaking legacy sequel, co-wrote the script for its 2018 sequel, Fallen Kingdom, and was attached to helm Star Wars: Episode IX for Lucasfilm before he ultimately parted ways with the project due to creative differences.

The film received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics, the worst-received film in the trilogy (and all six films, including the first three Jurassic Park entries). The film still grossed over $979 million globally, and is now available on home media. With its release, a special Extended Edition restores 14 minutes of cut footage from the film. In promotion of its release, Colin Trevorrow tweeted a photo of the Target exclusive steelbook release of the film, with a tweet that seems to throw shade at the theatrical cut:

The Extended Edition finds a way…

In some ways, one can’t help but feel that Colin Trevorrow is a bit disappointed that the Extended Edition of his film was not the theatrical cut that was released by Universal Pictures. It didn’t help that this sequel was quite negatively-received, and perhaps the Extended Edition brought some massive improvements to the film’s quality, akin to how the Ultimate Edition of Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was deemed superior to the theatrical cut, which was heavily-maligned by critics.

Here is the synopsis for Colin Trevorrow’s film:

This summer, experience the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era as two generations unite for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar®-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe. From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures. Jurassic World Dominion, from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, propels the more than $5 billion franchise into daring, uncharted territory, featuring never-seen dinosaurs, breakneck action and astonishing new visual effects.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow from a script he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, the film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Mamadou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, Daniella Pineda, Campbell Scott, Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith, Omar Sy, DeWanda Wise, and BD Wong.

Jurassic World Dominion is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD.
