Could Lucasfilm tempt back Colin Trevorrow?

Colin Trevorrow, who was originally set to direct Star Wars Episode IX before being replaced by J.J. Abrams, has shared his thoughts on the possibility of returning to the franchise.

Details of Trevorrow’s plans for the conclusion to the Skywalker Saga have emerged online since he was removed from the project by Lucasfilm. His version of Episode IX, titled Duel of the Fates, would have been radically different to Abrams’ The Rise of Skywalker.

While Star Wars fans may never get to see Duel of the Fates come to fruition, some may be wondering if there could be another place for Colin Trevorrow in the galaxy far, far away.

Colin Trevorrow’s Thoughts On A New Star Wars Project

Unfortunately for fans who would have liked to see Colin Trevorrow’s take on the Star Wars universe, it sounds like the director isn’t interested in returning to the franchise. However, Trevorrow says this reluctance isn’t the result of his Episode IX experience or a reflection of the franchise.

Speaking recently to ComicBook.com, the director was asked whether he might consider returning to Star Wars to helm a new project. Trevorrow, who recently helmed the Jurassic World series, said he was now more interested in working on original projects after several years spent working on recognized franchises.

Discussing his thoughts on a Star Wars return, Colin Trevorrow said:

“I don’t know. Not because of Star Wars, but because I’ve spent 8 or 9 making new versions of the things we love when we were kids. You know? In one place or another. There’s not just a lot of pressure on that, but it also casts a shadow over everything else that you want to do… I made a small film after Jurassic World, and I was the ‘Director of Star Wars’ when I made it. And I think to be able to step out of that a little bit and not having everything I do be in the context of our belief systems is interesting to me.”

In his latest film, Jurassic World Dominion, Colin Trevorrow reunited the main cast of 1993’s Jurassic Park, having them join forces with the new heroes of the Jurassic World series. It sounds like the film fulfilled his creative desire to explore nostalgic stories and he may be staying away from Star Wars for the foreseeable future.

Here is the synopsis for Jurassic World Dominion:

This summer, experience the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era as two generations unite for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar®-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe. From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures. Jurassic World Dominion, from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, propels the more than $5 billion franchise into daring, uncharted territory, featuring never-seen dinosaurs, breakneck action and astonishing new visual effects.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow from a script he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, the film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Mamadou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, Daniella Pineda, Campbell Scott, Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith, Omar Sy, DeWanda Wise, and BD Wong.
