Comparing ‘Suicide Squad’ To Animated Adventure ‘Assault On Arkham’

The dynamics of the Squad itself is something where the two movies differ from each other almost entirely. In Suicide Squad the idea of them coming together as a family is a heavily prevalent theme (El Diablo even calls the Squad his family). These are bad guys who think they have to look after themselves because no one else cares about them, and suddenly they realise they’re not alone in the world. It’s an interesting dynamic, and in my opinion one of the mosts successful aspects of the film.

Assault on Arkham on the other hand goes in a completely different direction. The squad are constantly at each others throats, with part of the last act involving 3 of them basically trying to kill each other in order to escape. The closest this movie gets to presenting some sort of emotional connection between the squad members is with Killer Frost and King Shark (yeh, that’s kind of weird). And maybe Deadshot and Harley, but that relationship seems to be much more, uh, physically grounded.
