Rumored Constantine Actor For J.J. Abrams Series Reacts To Keanu Reeves Sequel News

The project could still be picked up by another streamer.

JJ Abrams Constantine HBO Max

The actor rumored to play John Constantine in J.J. Abrams’ planned HBO Max series shared his thoughts on the news of a sequel to the Keanu Reeves film.

John Constantine has received his fair share of projects over the years between the Keanu Reeves film and the 2014 series starring Matt Ryan. Before the news of Warner Bros. Discovery bringing back Keanu Reeves and Francis Lawrence for a sequel to the 2005 film, J.J. Abrams was developing a Constantine project of his own.

Who Was Rumored To Play HBO Max’s John Constantine?

J.J. Abrams’ Constantine and Madame X shows originally planned for HBO Max will now be shopped to other streamers, but it’s unclear if they will remain in the same state they were in if picked up. According to a past rumor from The Illuminerdi, Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù was set to play John Constantine in the now uncertain Abrams series. Following the news of the Keanu Reeves sequel, the actor tweeted out the following:

Here is the synopsis for the 2005 film:

Based on the DC Comics/Vertigo Hellblazer graphic novels and written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, Constantine tells the story of John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), a man who has literally been to hell and back. When he teams up with skeptical policewoman Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz) to solve the mysterious suicide of her twin sister, their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldly events, the two become inextricably involved and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film stars Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, and Peter Stormare.

Constantine is available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news surrounding the future of DC, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
