Don’t count out Sofia Gigante! Cristian Milioti gives her thoughts on a possible return to her iconic role following The Penguin.
Cristin Milioti was far and away the breakout star of The Penguin. Her performance as Sofia Gigante enraptured the internet for weeks on end, with many calling her one of the greatest performances to ever grace the comic book genre. Yet as the season came to a close, fans were already making theories about how and when she could return.
The possibility of a return as Sofia Gigante was addressed by Cristin Milioti in a recent interview by IndieWire. While the actress didn’t tip her hand on if The Penguin may or may not be getting a season 2, she did reveal that she hopes to get the character out of the sticky predicament she found herself in at the end of season 1.
“I don’t know. It just seemed like there are infinite possibilities of where she could go. Obviously I would want to see her get out of Arkham. That’s like number one. I don’t want her in there. So I want to see her get out there, and then exact revenge.”
Sofia Gigante’s New Goal After The Penguin
Cristin Milioti would expand on how Sofia Gigante might return following the events of The Penguin. She explains that, while her character’s original aims revolved around gaining power and seeking justice for her brother, her time in the slammer could change her. This might mean a bigger target, be it Oz’s entire criminal empire, or even The Batman himself.
“Maybe now she would be even more of a loose cannon, because before it was pretty focused on him and gaining power, but depending on what happens to her in there, it could be an even larger target. I would love to explore that.”
With talks of The Penguin season 2 officially underway, it’s more likely than not that Cristin Milioti would make some form of appearance as Sofia Gigante in the renewal. Though given the new circumstances of both her and Oz, it’s possible her return may involve very different circumstances than what audiences might expect from her role in season 1.
