Power Rangers concept artist Ian Joyner has shared early designs for Dacre Montgomery’s Red Ranger suit.
In 2017, Saban and Lionsgate released a new Power Rangers film with a cast of young actors that included Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott, a.k.a. the Red Ranger. The new Power Rangers also featured updated costumes for the titular team of heroes, but, of course, several designs were conceived during the pre-production phase before the final version was chosen.
Now, Power Rangers concept artist Ian Joyner has taken to his official Instagram account to share two early designs of Dacre Montgomery’s Red Ranger suit. As Joyner notes in a caption for one of the photos, the artist was tasked with exploring rough material and alien shapes while making sure the costumes were still recognizable as Power Rangers outfits.

Early design pass on #powerrangers redesign from the 2017 film. We were asked to explore rough materials and abstracted/alien shapes while keeping it still a recognizable Power Ranger. I have more of these early sketchier passes so will post if people are interested. #superhero #mightymorphinpowerrangers #gogopowerrangers #redranger
Power Rangers brand founder Haim Saban since sold the rights to the team to the toy company Hasbro, who will now work with Paramount on a new film. Unfortunately, Dacre Montgomery won’t be suiting up as the Red Ranger again as the project is going to completely reboot the Power Rangers franchise.

SABAN’S POWER RANGERS follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.
Directed by Dean Israelite, Power Rangers stars Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Naomi Scott, Becky G, Ludi Lin, and Elizabeth Banks.
Power Rangers is now available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD. Stay tuned for the latest news on Dacre Montgomery and the future of the Power Rangers.
