Does the MCU have its new Wolverine? Dafne Keen talks about her future as X-23 and if she hopes to return in the upcoming Avengers films.
One of the biggest breakouts of Fox’s X-Men universe was Dafne Keen. The actress played the viscous heart of gold in the center of Logan, leading many to hope that she would have a long future ahead as X-23. However, given a number of legal issues and corporate mergers, she was unable to play the character again until her grand return in Deadpool and Wolverine, serving as a key member of their legally distinct group of Avengers.
Yet now that the actress has officially made her way into the MCU, fans are wondering if there’s any chance Dafne Keen will return in future projects. Namely, if the iconic heroine will stand alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. It seems Keen is up to it, revealing that she’d love to do anything from massive Avengers-level crossovers to smaller character-centric projects.
“I would like to see her in a fun team-up,” Keen explained to The Direct at the Saturn Awards. “I would also love to see Laura in smaller stories as well. I enjoyed playing her in Logan, which was much more grittier. So that’s fun. But I’d also be very, very open to a big whole action fight team up with the Avengers.”
Dafne Keen’s Future In The MCU
One of the biggest dreams fans have had ever since Dafne Keen made her return as X-23 is having her take on the mantle of Wolverine in the MCU. This would allow new blood into the role, while still respecting Hugh Jackman’s historic legacy as the character. While Keen hopes that anything she does as the character would involve her much older co-star, she did admit that she was open to anything that Marvel had in store for her.
“Well, can we both [Laura and Logan] be there? Yeah? OK, good. If we’re both there, I’d be really happy…Wonderful. Yes. Honestly, anything that involves Laura, I’d be down to do.”
Bringing Dafne Keen into the MCU as the main Wolverine could possibly be one of the smartest decisions Marvel could make. Recasting Hugh Jackman would be a massive challenge given his pedigree as the character, but keeping him around only kicks the can down the road. Passing the mantle down to X-23 may be the only solution that satisfies both fans and critics alike.
