Fans were disappointed last week when it was revealed that Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof was asked to leave his Star Wars project. Thanks to insiders, new information has come out on what that project could have looked like.
Not much was known about Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars project when it was in development. However, reports by insiders seem to suggest that the concept is similar to that of the recently announced movie by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy that is set to focus on Rey 15 years after the end of the Skywalker Saga. According to insider Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast, Lindelof’s film would have taken place nearly 60 years after the last film and followed an elderly Rey training a male and a female Jedi Padawan.
While Jeff Sneider wouldn’t reveal who the actors attached to play the Padawans were, he did say that the studio was looking for an actress like Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Helen Mirren to play the elderly Rey, though the Hollywood legend was never officially attached to the role. According to Sneider, the script also wasn’t very good. So while Obaid-Chinoy’s film may have conceptual similarities to Lindelof’s film, the script penned by Steven Knight likely won’t share much in the way of content.
The future of Star Wars looks brighter than ever
The announcement of these three new Star Wars movies marks an exciting time for fans of the franchise. With each movie being directed by a different filmmaker, there is sure to be a unique perspective and style brought to each project.
The focus on new characters and storylines within the Star Wars universe is also promising. While the original trilogy will always hold a special place in the hearts of fans, it’s important to keep the franchise evolving and exploring new avenues. The new Jedi order, as promised in the third movie, could provide an interesting look at the future of the Star Wars universe and the continued use and understanding of The Force.
