Dan Lin will not be taking control of DC Films for Warner Bros. Discovery, following talks between the studio and the producer breaking down in recent days.
The producer had been in talks to head up DC’s film and television output for Warner Bros. Discovery, following the merger that formed the new company under CEO David Zaslav. However, talks with Dan Lin have now broken down, due in part to Lin’s commitment to his production company Rideback.
With Dan Lin no longer in the running, Warner Bros. Discovery’s search for DC’s answer to Marvel’s Kevin Feige will continue.
Who Will Take Over DC Films?
Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav is set on overhauling and revitalizing DC Films with a new ten-year plan in hopes of mirroring the success enjoyed by Marvel Studios. However, things seem to be off to a rocky start.
Zaslav made the controversial decision to cancel the release of Batgirl last month, which saw current DC Films president Walter Hamada on the brink of leaving the job. While Hamada was persuaded to stay in the role at least until the release of Black Adam next month, he’s not expected to stick around much longer.
Two major upcoming DC films – Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom – have also recently faced delays. The Flash is still set for its June 2023 release, but has been hampered by recent controversies surrounding star Ezra Miller.
With complications surrounding so many DC projects and Dan Lin now out of the running for the company’s top job, the future of DC Films remains unclear. It will likely remain that way until Warner Bros. Discovery find a new president for the studio.
One of the few DC movies unaffected by the recent behind-the-scenes shake-up at Warner Bros. Discovery is Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, which is released next month. Here’s the synopsis:
Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script written by by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani, the DCEU film stars Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.
Black Adam opens in theaters on October 21, 2022. Be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news regarding the future of DC, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more original video content.
