Danai Gurira is returning as Okoye for Chadwick Boseman’s highly-anticipated Black Panther 2.
During the Marvel Studios Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige officially announced that a Black Panther sequel is happening. Now, Danai Gurira has revealed that she will be back as Okoye opposite Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa.
While doing the press rounds for The Walking Dead at Comic-Con, Danai Gurira told MTV News that she is set to reprise her role as Okoye for Black Panther 2. Here’s what she had to say:
“Listen, listen… literally, I have no information, that’s the beauty of our conversation right now. Mr. Coogler says, ‘Tell them we’re working hard, and you’re in it.’ That’s all I got for you.”
Danai Gurira made her debut as Okoye in the first Black Panther movie, which opened in theaters in February 2018. Two months later, Okoye returned to the big screen in Avengers: Infinity War, fighting alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes during the Battle of Wakanda. She was last seen in Avengers: Endgame.
Chadwick Boseman’s first cinematic solo outing as Black Panther is currently the tenth highest-grossing movie of all time with $1.347 billion. The film won three Academy Awards for Best Original Score, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
Ryan Coogler is returning to the director’s chair for Black Panther 2, but the film does not yet have a release date. Stay tuned for the latest news on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
