Daniel Craig Mr. Fantastic Doctor Strange 2

Daniel Craig was reportedly the first choice to play Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Marvel Studios’ newest film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featured the appearance of The Illuminati, which consisted of Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski), and Professor X (Patrick Stewart. In particular, Krainski as Reed Richards was a common choice amongst fans for whomever the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s take on the smartest man on Earth sould Be. However, it turns out that eyes were originally on James Bond actor Daniel Craig to take on that role.

Courtesy of Justin Kroll, Senior Film Reporter for Deadline, he explained that during production for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Daniel Craig was originally set to play Mr. Fantastic. Unfortunately, he backed out due to an uptick in cases during the pandemic, and didn’t want to risk exposing his family back in London:

Would fans have reacted differently if Daniel Craig was Mr. Fantastic instead?

If Daniel Craig was in fact playing Mr. Fantastic, that would’ve made for an interesting alternate universe. For one, some would speculate whether or not this would still lead to seeing him portray Reed Richards in the MCU’s first official Fantastic Four movie, given that the actor just retired from the James Bond franchise and is certainly looking to take a break from action franchises in favor of smaller-scale fare like the the upcoming Knives Out sequel.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is in theaters now.
