Daredevil: Born Again is ditching Mayor Fisk! Series showrunner Dario Scardapane teases an iconic era of the comics will serve as the inspiration for season 3.
Perhaps the most defining elements of this era of Daredevil: Born Again (and its surrounding projects) is the Mayor Fisk storyline. It’s a concept that started all the way back in Echo, and seems to be coming to an oddly prophetic head in the second season of the critically acclaimed series. Though many see this as just the beginning, with the most common prediction being that this storyline will cross over into the Spider-Man series of films.
However, it seems as though Mayor Fisk isn’t here to stay. When speaking about the future of Daredevil: Born Again, showrunner Dario Scardapane reveals that the political storyline will come to a close in the next season, with the crew hoping to focus more on the character’s street-level roots heading into season 3.
“The playbook is pretty well established,” Scardapane told SFXMagazine. “So when we were writing this stuff we were like, ‘Here’s what he does.’ The anti-vigilante task force is part of the comics. We built them and costumed them based on the comics. There are a few sequences that were shot a year ago that could be off the news, and it’s weirding all of us out.”
“Getting into the realm of politics, New York politics, the Game of Thrones intrigue behind the scenes. Okay, that’s fun too, but as it becomes almost too topical, it feels like it’s going away from the large, mythological genre stuff.”
“So as we finish up the Mayor Fisk run with season 2, as that storyline comes to its inevitable conclusion, what we’re doing going forward feels more like a return to the [Frank] Miller-era comics. So yeah, it was fun to play in the realm of politics, but I like something a little more street level, personally.”
Daredevil’s Inspirations For Season 3
While Frank Miller is a controversial creator in some circles, there’s no denying that his era of comics defined the character of Daredevil for a generation. The edgy, moody style that Miller is known for served as a key inspiration for both Daredevil: Born Again and the original Daredevil Netflix series. So it makes sense they’d want to return to that style following the Mayor Fisk storyline.
It’s hard to make any firm predictions about which Frank Miller comics the team will take inspiration from for season 3. However, it’s more likely than not that Bullseye and Elektra will both be playing major roles in Daredevil: Born Again going forward. And, following that, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Foggy Nelson find his way back from the dead.
Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming on Disney Plus, with season 2 set to release in March 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
