Daredevil star Charlie Cox gave his support to the #SaveDaredevil campaign launched by fans after the series’ shocking cancellation last year.
After gaining the support from Wilson Fisk himself, Vincent D’Onofrio, the petition has managed to reach over 170,000 signatures on Change.org. Speaking at ACE Comic Con, Cox shared his enthusiasm for the campaign telling fans:
“I found out the other day there’s this petition, #SaveDaredevil. You can sign it. Sign it!”
Both fans and the cast of Marvel’s Daredevil were shocked when the series was abruptly canceled by Netflix last year after the third season debuted on the streaming service to critical acclaim. Despite rave reviews, the future of the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is uncertain with Disney gearing up to launch its very own streaming service, Disney+. Daredevil, along with Luke Cage and Iron Fist were all canceled by Netflix after their latest seasons debuted while a new season of The Punisher is set to release this month with a new season of Jessica Jones on the way later this year. Like Daredevil, fans rallied to petition Netflix to resurrect Luke Cage and Iron Fist but any impact remains to be seen.
While Netflix does not share metrics for its viewership ratings, the streaming service clarified that Daredevil being canceled was to close the series out on a “high note.” Although Data gathered by consumer-insights firm Crimson Hexagon showed social media engagement for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage saw a significant drop after each series debuted.
