One of the biggest mysteries surrounding the third season of Marvel’s Daredevil has been solved as new showrunner Erik Oleson has revealed how Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin gets out of prison and returned to New York City.
Marvel’s Daredevil is gearing up for its return as the third season of the hit Netflix series is set to debut later this month. The new season features D’Onofrio reprising his role as New York’s most fearsome crime lord, Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin and returning to Hell’s Kitchen to reclaim his throne.
Speaking with Screen Rant, Oleson dished on Kingpin’s return and revealed that his love for Vanessa will be the main reason behind his release from prison when the series returns:
“He learns in the first episode this season that Vanessa, his love, will face criminal charges as an accessory to his crimes in season 1 and that pushes Fisk to make a decision to become a state’s witness against other criminals in the city and that brings the FBI – and Jay Ali, Ray Nadeem is the FBI agent who becomes his handler, essentially, and gets Fisk out of prison and moves him into a penthouse … while he’s ratting out other criminals. But as we all know, Wilson Fisk, there’s often more to him than meets the eye and I see him this season as somewhat of a spymaster. … We’ve always seen Fisk has his hooks into people and I go a lot deeper with that this season and that will set Matt and Fisk, of course, on a collision course which will have tremendous implications for everyone in our cast and for who Matt is.”
As for Jay Ali’s new character, Oleson has previously teased the FBI Agent Ray Nadeem as the heart of the new season but remained tight-lipped on any other details.
Daredevil Season 3 stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Jay Ali, Wilson Bethel, Joanne Whalley, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
Daredevil Season 3 hits Netflix October 19, 2018.
