Do you want to own the Batpod from The Dark Knight? This is your chance, if the price is right. While the custom-build superhero motorbike might be priceless in the eyes of moviegoers and comic book fans everywhere, it’s set to be auctioned and it’s currently worth $80,000. But don’t be surprised to see that price go up.
The auction is hosted by Prop Store in the UK, and the asking price is expected to rise to $100,000. Keep in mind, it’s sold as a roller (i.e. it doesn’t run), but it just needs a few pieces to get the engine roaring and the wheels turning. That would include fresh fluid, new throttle controls, a new gas tank and a new battery. It’s also worth noting that it’s powered by a 750cc Honda motor and it sits on 31” Hoosier racing tires.
To be honest, I’m talking outside my wheelhouse, so forgive me if I stumble when referring to something auto specific. But the point remains: you can own an official Batpod, if you have a lot of money to give away.
The auction begins at the end of September, if you’re interested. The Batpod was the brain child of production designer Nathan Crowley and then built by special effects supervisor Chris Corbould. It was seen most prominently during the police chase scene and Batman’s game of chicken on the streets of Gotham with The Joker during Christopher Nolan’s masterful 2008 superhero blockbuster.
