The cast of Dark Phoenix recently sat down with Jimmy Kimmel to promote the movie, but the host spoiled a major death during the interview.
The current cast of X-Men comprising of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult have been mainstays of the X-Men franchise since their first appearance in 2011’s X-Men: First Class. Many fans have come to love and cherish these characters and their actors and have become quite emotionally invested in this franchise.
However, it seems not everyone cares about the outcome of these characters. While promoting Dark Phoenix, the cast appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk about the film and the host himself himself dropped a major spoiler about the movie. Mystique’s fate has been known for a while now but it seems as though it was meant to be kept under wraps. While it’s a big death, Jimmy Kimmel is actually right when he says, “this is not a spoiler.” The fate of Mystique was revealed by director Simon Kinberg months ago, following the release of the first Dark Phoenix trailer.
In the video, the cast members look stunned, with many seemingly caught off guard that such a significant plot point was mentioned on air. While the death was confirmed months ago, it seems that when the film went under Disney’s management, the marketing for the film changed significantly, and that plot point was meant to be concealed. Prior to the Disney Fox merger, it seemed that this film was the “passing of the torch” from the X-Men: First Class crew to the young X-Men who were introduced in X-Men: Apocalypse, but now it seems the film will be the final outing for the X-Men.
