A new Dark Phoenix tie-in song offers fans a first look at the live-action debut of the iconic X-Men character Alison Blaire, a.k.a. Dazzler.
X-Men: Apocalypse had a deleted scene with Jean Grey and Scott Summers visiting a mall record store and stumbling across “Sounds of Light and Fury,” an album by Dazzler, but the character has yet to appear on the big screen. However, Dazzler was confirmed to have a small role in Dark Phoenix all the way back in June 2017.
Now, X-Men fans can finally get a first look at Dazzler in the music video for the Dark Phoenix tie-in song Extraordinary Being by Emeli Sandé. The video features scenes from the upcoming movie, including one of a blonde woman in an all-white jumpsuit, Dazzler’s go-to look in the comics. Here’s a screencap of Dazzler in the music video.
Introduced in Uncanny X-Men #130 in 1980, Dazzler is a mutant pop star with the ability to convert sound vibrations into light and energy. Halston Sage (The Orville, The Last Summer) is rumored to be playing the character in Dark Phoenix, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
Veteran X-Men producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix in addition to producing the film with Hutch Parker, Lauren Schuler Donner and Todd Hallowell. Dark Phoenix could be Fox’s final X-Men film featuring the core X-Men cast in the cinematic universe launched by director Bryan Singer in 2000 with the Disney-Fox merger looming on the horizon.
Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here’s the official synopsis:
“In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”
Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men.
