Avengers star Dave Bautista revealed he tried to join The Walking Dead for years ahead of boarding Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.

Since his breakout role in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, Dave Bautista has gone on to star in some major films from Spectre to Blade Runner 2049. Before Bautista ultimately joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the WWE star turned Avengers actor had his eyes set on The Walking Dead.

During an interview with Empire Magazine, Dave Bautista confessed that before he joined Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, his zombie fandom had him wanting to star in The Walking Dead for a long time.

“I’m a zombie fan. I tried to get on Walking Dead for years. I said I would come and play a zombie for free, but they said, ‘You’re too big!’ For me, there had to be something special about a zombie film for me to sign up. What sets us apart is the heist. But there’s a whole bunch of different layers to this film.”
