Suicide Squad director David Ayer has seemingly confirmed that Harley Quinn and Deadshot “hooked-up” in the 2016 comic book film.
David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is filled to the brim with numerous Easter eggs and hints that tease towards a much larger vision. Similarly to Zack Snyder, Ayer’s intended version of the film was never able to hit theaters. The cut that did get a theatrical release was criticized for, among many reasons, its lack of cohesion. Ayer has maintained throughout the years that he still stands by the films that first introduced audiences to Deadshot and Harley Quinn, even if it wasn’t exactly what he wanted.
David Ayer has been vocal about his original intentions for the film and has maintained a positive relationship with fans by answering their Suicide Squad questions on social media. Most recently, Ayer confirmed a fan’s theory that Harley Quinn and Deadshot had a brief romance in the film.

The fan theory suggests that Harley Quinn and Deadshot “hooked up” moments before Joker attacked the Suicide Squad. David Ayer offered a simple thumbs-up emoji, which does seemingly confirm the theory, though not in specifics. Many fans have theorized that a romance between Harley Quinn and Deadshot was cut from the theatrical cut of the film so this confirmation is a win for those who have shipped the two characters. This confirmation also fleshes out Harley Quinn’s character, making it even more obvious that she wants out of the relationship with Joker.
