‘Suicide Squad’: David Ayer Reveals New Harley Quinn & Joker Scene Details

David Ayer has revealed brand new details regarding the chopper scene from Suicide Squad featuring Harley Quinn and The Joker.

The Joker and Harley Quinn’s toxic relationship was one of the most under-utilized aspects of the Suicide Squad. Since the film’s release, which was doused in negativity, director David Ayer has clarified some of his intentions for the project. It’s become apparent through Ayer’s tweets that his vision for Suicide Squad was muddied due to Warner Bros. meddling. While he still stands by the theatrical cut, the director has also done a fantastic job of letting fans know what they missed out on.

When asked by a fan on Twitter if David Ayer originally intended to have Joker push Harley Quinn out of a chopper in Suicide Squad, the director confirmed it. He did, however, clarify that Joker had no intention of killing Harley Quinn by pushing her out of the chopper.

The chopper scene takes place around the third act of the film, where The Joker attacks the Suicide Squad and frees Harley Quinn. As both are flying to safety, the chopper is hit with a missile and The Joker vaguely utters a threat towards Harley Quinn. In the next cut, she’s seen falling out of the helicopter, landing safely on top of a building. The theatrical cut of Suicide Squad doesn’t show The Joker pushing Harley Quinn out of the chopper, though it does make sense considering their relationship is the epitome of toxicity. Cut moments such as that one have prompted numerous fans to begin a “Release The Ayer Cut” movement, similar to one that Zack Snyder received for Justice League. While there’s no news of an Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad coming any time soon, cut scenes such as these really deserve an audience.
