David Corenswet speaks out!

David Corenswet Superman Trailer

Is David Corenswet getting too much hate as Superman? The actor gives his thoughts on the backlash he’s received since his DC Universe casting.

The DC Universe fandom is in a weird moment in its history. The franchise is having its do-or-die moment this summer when Superman hits the silver screen. However, that doesn’t mean fans are even remotely close to being on the same page. This especially comes to who is cast in the upcoming franchise reboot, with perhaps the biggest sticking point being David Corenswet taking up the mantle from Henry Cavill.

For many, especially the more casual side of the DC Universe fandom, David Corenswet is seen as a picture-perfect casting for the Man of Steel. However, many hardcore fans have taken umbrage with certain aspects of his performance, from his look all the way down to his costume. This has come with a large swathe of critiques, with some believing that Henry Cavill should’ve never been replaced as Superman going into this new era.

David Corenswet Speaks On Superman Critiques

For many actors, especially those in high profile positions like in the MCU and DC Universe, the general advice they’ve been given is to stay off social media. However, it seems as though David Corenswet has been made aware of some of the criticisms that have been posted since he’s been cast as Superman. Though according to him, it’s not something that gets under his skin.

“I like to grow and improve myself with criticism,” Corenswet explained in a recent chat with Esquire. “I don’t take it personally. Quite the opposite, it’s a learning experience. And all actors must accept it as what it is in order to grow professionally.”

In a world where actors are constantly exposed to more criticism than in any other time in human history, it’s a relief that David Corenswet can take his public image in stride. While he may not be who everyone would have cast as Superman, it’s clear that he has a deep amount of respect for the character and the story being told. Let’s just hope he’ll continue to hold the mantle for many, many years to come in the DC Universe!
