Red Guardian is BACK!

David Harbour is finally making his return to the MCU! The actor teases the “epic” proportions of Avengers: Doomsday in a brand new interview.

When it comes to any good franchise, you can’t just have your faces, you need to have your freaks. And when it comes to the recent freaks of the MCU, none have been more endearing than David Harbour’s Red Guardian. A character whose drunken dad energy captured the hearts of fans in Thunderbolts, and who is officially set to make their return in Avengers: Doomsday.

Though sadly, while some actors making their return to the MCU have been very vocal about their experiences, David Harbour has mostly been silent throughout the production of Avengers: Doomsday. While it’s likely that fans will hear more about Red Guardian heading into the press season of Stranger Things, Harbour did recently tease that the movie is bigger than anything else he’s ever been on.

“I was not even convinced when we started, and this movie’s gonna be really good,” Harbour admitted to Screen Rant. “They have a special sauce. I don’t even really understand, but they [the Russos] just know how to do these things. And I think that as evidenced in Civil War, as evidenced in Infinity War, there’s something about the layers in which they put the comedy and the drama and the surprises and the scale and the epicness and all that stuff. It’s incredible.

“I will say I’ve never been on a set like this in my life. I’ve never seen anything like this. You saw those chairs. So it’s like, every one of those guys and girls has a trailer. It’s just insane to look around the room and be like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in the movie. There’s what’s his face doing that speech’. It’s just enormous.”

David Harbour’s Role In Avengers: Doomsday

While these comments mostly serve to gush about the experience of participating in Avengers: Doomsday, it does actually give some fans some details about what role David Harbour’s Red Guardian will play in the film. Specifically, Marvel is infamously cagey about what they let other actors know. The fact that Harbour mentioned a character giving a speech suggests that there will be a key member of his storyline giving one in a way that he has to know about while acting.

It’s a bit of a mouthful speculation-wise, but the idea holds up. Most likely, the honor of speech giving likely goes to another captain making their return in Avengers: Doomsday: Sam Wilson. It’s likely that Captain America will give some kind of rousing speech, and that Red Guardian will make some kind of quip about its contents. Since it’s not likely that David Harbour’s gag character will be interacting directly with Doctor Doom much!
