Is the House of El the key to Supergirl? David Krumholtz reveals new details about the next installment in the DC Universe’s ever-growing franchise.
Supergirl is a paradox of a film. At once, fans know nothing about it and everything about it. On one hand, there is very clearly one specific comic storyline that it is adapting: one about grief, loss, and love experienced by the last daughter of the House of El. On the other hand, the studio painted Jason Momoa grey and called him Lobo- a character that never appeared in the original comic.
As such, it’s unclear how Supergirl will adapt the Woman of Tomorrow comic. Namely, in which aspects will be cut and which will be added in order to better support the theme. Many assume that one element that’s certain to stick around is the House of El, or at the very least some of the reflections on it as it pertains to Kara’s place in the universe.
How The House Of El Impacts Supergirl
David Krumholtz, who is set to play Kara’s dad in the film, recently spoke about this tension in a recent interview with Nerdtropolis. The actor revealed that Supergirl will remain highly faithful to the original comic that it’s based on, and that a large focus will be given to clarifying the story of the House of El.
“It’s very true to the graphic novel that it’s based on, Woman of Tomorrow. Which is great. I’m thrilled to be sort of the next piece of telling the story of Krypton and sort of further clarifying what the House of El is all about.”
Given the last fans saw of the House of El was Bradley Cooper encouraging David Corenswet to start a harem, it makes sense that Supergirl would take another crack at adapting the iconic family. It’ll be interesting to see how it runs with or changes any of the details present in Superman. And with the movie coming out next year, fans likely won’t have to wait long to find out!
Supergirl is set to release on June 26, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
