Wonder Woman star David Thewlis revealed a behind-the-scenes look at his Ares cameo in Zack Snyder’s Justice League .
Although it’s been a few months since Zack Snyder’s complete vision for Justice League arrived on HBO Max, behind-the-scenes photos from the film still find their way online. It wasn’t too long ago that news arrived about how Wayne T. Carr was originally meant to be in the film as John Stewart, with Snyder shooting a scene with the actor in his driveway before Warner Bros. nixed the idea. And now David Thewlis has shared a a new shot of his Ares cameo in the flashback sequence where the armies of Earth fought Darkseid.
David Thewlis, who first appeared as Ares in Wonder Woman, briefly reprised the role in the flashback sequence when the Old Gods fought alongside the Amazons, the Atlanteans and the army of men. The actor will next be seen in another DC project, Netflix’s The Sandman, where he’ll play another villain known as John Dee/Doctor Destiny. In the caption of the new Justice League image, Thewlis explained that he knew his face was going to be digitally put on to another actor “with a gym membership.” So it’s unsurprising that David Thewlis got a motion-capture suit to wear rather than a physical Ares costume. Take a look below.

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions.
