DC Comics’ Jim Lee Debunks Marvel Takeover Rumors

DC Comics’ Jim Lee has debunked the rumors that suggest Marvel will be taking over the iconic publishing house.

Ever since Dan DiDio left DC Comics, fans and industry experts have been wondering what’s next for DC Comics. In the wake of DiDio leaving the publishing house, Jim Lee stepped up to the role of being the solo publisher. Of course, every time corporate restructuring happens, fans are quick to jump to the worst case scenario. This season’s doomsday scenario was Marvel taking over DC Comics, a move that’s just as ludicrous as it is unprecedented.

It’s hard to avoid rumors like these online, so it’s not surprising that Jim Lee vaguely addressed them this weekend at his publisher panel at C2E2. During his panel, Jim Lee maintained that DC Comics would stand sentry at Warner Brothers, hinting towards the rumors that Marvel would be taking over the comic publisher. Here’s what Jim Lee had to say at his C2E2 panel:

“To address some of the stuff that is out there, there’s rumors… speculation. I wouldn’t put any credence into it. DC has been around for 85 years, and we’ll be around for another 85 years. I hope to be doing this panel in 85 years. We’re hugely important. We’ve been with Warner Bros. for decades. The actual strategy for DC is to put publishing at the center of what we do. It’s the engine of all the movies, TV, cartoons, we do. And so it’s my intent going forward as the Publisher, to lean into the collective years of my team.”

These rumors that suggested Marvel would be taking over DC Comics obviously turned out to be moot. Even if DC Comics was going through a rough patch, as Jim Lee stated, the fuel it adds to the entertainment industry with its bevy of films and television series is higher than ever. Even if Marvel were to purchase DC Comics, the ethical implications of such a deal would be preposterous as Marvel would hold a monopoly over most superhero and blockbuster content.
