DC is hitting the ground running with its animated offerings! The studio has revealed new details about My Adventures With Green Lantern and the Starfire series.
One of the biggest bombshells to come out of the most recent DC Studios press conference was the reveal that multiple new animated shows have already been greenlit. This includes a spin-off of My Adventures With Superman titled My Adventures With Green Lantern, a DC Superpowers Elseworlds show set in a boarding school, and a series based on the beloved Teen Titans heroine Starfire.
Following the announcements that these shows were coming down the pipeline, DC revealed a synopsis for each project (via Variety). The details for My Adventures With Green Lantern reveal that the series will focus on Jessica Cruz — her second starring role in an animated project following her role on DC Superhero Girls. The show is also set to have a similar plot to My Adventures With Superman, focusing on the fallout of an ancient war with the Green Lanterns.
“My Adventures with Green Lantern, will follow high school student Jessica Cruz who has her life upended when…’a Green Lantern Power Ring falls from the sky’ and chooses Cruz ‘to be its champion.’ Things get even worse ‘when more debris from the Lanterns’ ancient space war arrives – along with their alien foes.’ Jake Wyatt is executive producing, and Stephanie Gonzaga is a co-executive producer.
Starfire Brings New Heroes To The DC Universe
The Starfire animated series has an even more interesting synopsis. The project focuses on the origins of the iconic Teen Titans heroine, escaping her home planet of Tamaran and setting a course for a new life beyond the stars. The show is also set to feature a number of familiar faces to DC fans, such as the Princess of Gemworld Amethyst and Lobo’s daughter Crush.
“Starfire serves as the origin story for the fan favorite title character, perhaps best known as part of the Teen Titans. The show follows her adventures after she uses ‘an ancient spaceship’ she discovers on her home planet of Tamaran to escape her planet and explore the stars.”
“Along the way, she’ll meet ‘space biker Crush, plant-loving Fern, and the magical Princess Amethyst of Gemworld’ and together, they will ‘uncover the deepest reaches of the DC universe, save Space Dolphins, surf technicolor nebulas, and boldly soar into the unknown.’ Josie Campbell is executive producing, and Brianne Drouhard is co-executive producing.”
It’s currently unclear if the Starfire animated series will be set in the DC Universe, or if the project will be an Elseworlds story like My Adventures With Green Lantern and DC Superpowers. Regardless, these surprising additions to DC’s slate came as a joy to fans who were wondering why the studios’ animated offerings were so sparse in their initial slate.
