How old will Batman be in the DC Universe? James Gunn shoots down a recent rumor about the Caped Crusader’s age.
One of the biggest worries fans have had about the DC Universe is how disparate the ages have been when it comes to casting heroes. Superman David Corenswet is only 31 years old. However Kyle Chandler, who plays his peer Hal Jordan, is nearly 60. This led many to wonder if Batman may end up getting hit with the old man stick, bolstered by a rumor that James Gunn is looking for a middle-aged actor to play the Dark Knight.
James Gunn did what he does best and immediately debunked this rumor, simply stating on Threads that the idea they’re looking for a middle-aged actor to play Batman in the DC Universe is “fiction”. The DC Studios co-chair didn’t reveal what age range they were looking for when it came to casting the iconic hero, but there are some hints suggesting a certain answer.
How Old Will Batman Be In The DC Universe?
While not much is known about Batman’s upcoming reboot in the DC Universe, James Gunn did reveal that it would be based off the Batman and Son comic, which introduced Bruce Wayne’s son Damian Wayne into the comic continuity. Given Damian Wayne is often 10-years-old, and middle-aged is considered to be when someone is 40 to 60 years old, it’s likely that Batman will be in his early 30s when he makes his silver screen debut.
This lines up with the ages of other prominent DC Universe heroes. While Kyle Chandler is 59, fellow Green Lantern actor Aaron Pierre is only 30. Hawkgirl’s actor Isabela Merced is only 23! So it’s clear that, while some prominent actors will be older in the universe, James Gunn’s core heroes tend to be in their 20s to 30s, suggesting that whatever actor is chosen for Batman will sit in the same range.
Batman the Brave and the Bold is set to be directed by Andy Muschietti. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
