DC Studios may be safe from the merger mamba! A new report suggests that Paramount may keep some key figures in place if they buy Warner Bros. Discovery.
Warner Bros. is back on the market. Over the past few weeks, it has been officially announced that Warner Bros. Discovery is courting a new owner. This comes less than four years after Discovery first bought Warner Bros. – resulting in a number of high profile cancellations, staffing changes, and just generally poorly received decisions from CEO David Zaslav.
This has led many people to worry that whichever company purchases Warner Bros. Discovery – with the three biggest names being Paramount, Apple, and Netflix – may once more cull departments and programming to try to recoup their investment. And with Batgirl being perhaps the biggest project cancelled for a tax write-off, DC Studios stands at the center of this fear.
Will DC Studios Change If Warner Bros. Discovery Gets Bought?
While merger discussions are still ongoing with several major parties, it seems as though at least one potential owner doesn’t plan to shake things up much. A report from Bloomberg reveals that Paramount CEO David Ellison wants to keep the creative teams at Warner Bros. Discovery intact, with their main method of consolidation focusing on marketing and distribution.
Though this approach, too, could end up hurting DC Studios in the long run. Warner Bros. Discovery’s biggest hits this year – Superman and The Minecraft Movie – both relied heavily on their marketing. If Paramount does go through with this merger, their team may become stretched too thin to pull off miracles like Warner Bros. did in 2025.
