DC Studios Co-Head James Gunn Responds To Logan Lerman Superman Rumors

Not so fast!

Logan Lerman Henry Cavill Superman DC Universe

DC Studios co-head James Gunn recently took to social media to dispel rumors surrounding the casting of the next Superman, including the speculation that Logan Lerman is the frontrunner to replace Henry Cavill. Gunn was quick to set the record straight, stating that he hasn’t even spoken to any actors about the role.

James Gunn responded to the rumors last night, stating that he hasn’t had any discussions with actors regarding the role of Superman. In fact, Gunn didn’t even recognize Logan Lerman. He clarified that DC Studios is currently just making private lists and prepping material for auditions, so it seems that fans will have to wait a little longer to find out who will take up the mantle of the Man of Steel.

DC Studios is casting a new Kal-El for Superman: Legacy, as the DC Universe movie explores the early years of the Last Son of Krypton, around the time he first starts working at the Daily Planet in Metropolis. James Gunn is writing and directing the DC Comics adaptation.

Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark and Superman while working at the Daily Planet and fighting off villains. The choice to focus on the early years of his career is a bold move that could potentially breathe new life into the character and appeal to a younger generation of fans.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

The FlashBlue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
