Following the instatement of James Gunn as co-chair of DC Studios with Peter Safran, many fans wondered if any members of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast would follow him in his new venture. During a recent interview, Chris Pratt revealed that he’d be down to star in the new DC Universe.
This information was revealed in a recent interview Chris Pratt had with CBR, where he discussed his future at both Marvel and DC Studios. When asked about which character he would want to play if he made the jump, Pratt said that he wanted to leave it up to fans:
“As far as DC characters pan, I don’t know. I will let the fans tell me what they would want me to do. I don’t have anything official to announce. I haven’t spoken to James Gunn in any capacity to where he’s offered me anything like that,” Pratt told CBR. “But listen, I love the guy. You know, he’s one of my best friends. I totally believe in him. And if he calls me, I am answering.”
Chris Pratt continues to talk about his optimism for the future of DC with James Gunn at the helm, calling the Guardians of the Galaxy director an auteur and the best person for the job:
“Oh, my gosh. Oh, man. Of course, I’ve spoken to him. You know, I’m really happy for him, with the developments in his career,” he said. “I think DC is super lucky to have him in that position. It’s hard for me to imagine a person, a better person for that role. He just loves comics. He’s so smart. He’s such an auteur. We’re obviously super, super pumped for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to come out. It’s truly a masterpiece.”
Despite there being no confirmation on if Pratt will be joining the DCU in the future, it hasn’t stopped fans from unleashing an avalanche of speculation onto the internet. Many fans poke fun at the idea that Pratt could play Superman in the upcoming Superman: Legacy, while others are seriously hoping for Pratt to star in the upcoming Booster Gold project. Only time will tell what role Pratt will take in the new DCU, if any.
What to expect from the third Guadians movie
One confirmed aspect of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the return of James Gunn as writer and director. Gunn was originally set to direct the film after the success of the first two Guardians flicks, but was temporarily removed from the project due to controversial tweets that resurfaced from his past. However, after a public outcry from the Guardians cast and fans, Gunn was reinstated on the film. Vol. 3 is his last Marvel movie due to his commitments to DC Studios.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis reads as follows: “Our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere, but it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life – a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova.
