A new report from Variety casts doubt over the future of Wonder Woman 3 in the new DC Universe.
While doing the press rounds for Netflix’s Heart of Stone, Gal Gadot mentioned that both James Gunn and Peter Safran assured her of their collective effort towards Wonder Woman 3 at DC Studios. Contrary to this, DC Studios insiders with a closer understanding of the situation have offered an alternative perspective to Variety.
A third installment of the Wonder Woman series is not in development at DC Studios, as reported by the trade. Moreover, James Gunn and Peter Safran haven’t signaled any intent to embark on such a venture with Gal Gadot in the foreseeable future.
Gal Gadot’s recent revelations could be based on early discussions, wishful thinking, or simple misinterpretations. Though the prospects of Wonder Woman 3 appear bleak as of now, DC Universe fans have other exciting content to look forward to.
Wonder Woman 3 is seemingly dead, but Paradise Lost lives on
DC Studios is looking to expand the Wonder Woman mythos with Paradise Lost. The series, which is currently in development, is said to be a Game of Thrones-type story about the Amazons living in Themiscyra, the home of Wonder Woman.
The Paradise Lost series promises to explore the rich history and culture of the Amazons and how they came to be the fierce warriors that they are known as. It will give fans a chance to delve deeper into the world of Wonder Woman, and see how her backstory and history are linked to that of her fellow Amazons.
Wonder Woman has been a major box-office draw for DC. Her 2017 film, directed by Patty Jenkins, earned more than $820 million worldwide and received critical acclaim for its portrayal of the DC Comics character, played by Gal Gadot. A sequel, titled Wonder Woman 1984, was released in 2020, but failed to reach the same heights as its predecessor due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
