David Harbour is set to voice Frankenstein in the upcoming Creature Commandos series for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s brand new DC Universe. During a recent interview, Harbour broke down his character and Gunn’s process for writing the show.
Fans were shocked when it was revealed that one of the first projects planned for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe was Creature Commandos, an animated show bringing together the creepy, kooky and all together ooky from across DC comics. One of those characters is set to be Frankenstein, a monster hunter based on the famous fictional character played by David Harbour. When speaking in an interview for his upcoming film Gran Turismo, Harbour broke down his colorful character and how he was sold on the project:
“I didn’t know what it was when it was sent to me; I met with James, and he sort of laid out a lot of stuff. It’s really exciting. He considers it some of the best stuff he’s ever written,” Harbour told Collider. “It’s hilarious, and the character is great. I think it’s been announced that it’s Frankenstein, and it’s a very colorful, terrific character. So, yeah, we’ve started to shoot stuff. I’m not one to really break, but during this, it is wildly funny stuff. So, yeah, we’re shooting. It’s hilarious and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
James Gunn has always had a skill for transforming characters nobody cared about before like The Guardians of the Galaxy and Peacemaker into household names, so its no shock to any of his fans that Creature Commandos would be taking a similar approach. David Harbour describing Frankenstein as colorful is also interesting, given the character is usually portrayed as rather stoic. Though given Gunn has teased crossovers between animation and live-action in his and Peter Safran’s DC universe, it’s likely fans will be seeing a more classic interpretation of the monster in the future.
