Fans have been waiting for any news on the upcoming Star Wars film helmed by Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy. The director has revealed an update on the Lucasfilm project, though likely isn’t one fans want to hear.

Late last year it was confirmed that Shawn Levy would be directing an upcoming Star Wars project for Lucasfilm. Details about the film have been sparse since the announcement, with some believing it to be canceled. While the project is far from canned, Levy revealed that progress was put on hold due to the ongoing WGA strike:

“We were just starting the process of developing my [Star Wars] movie, and the writer strike happened,” Levy told Collider. “So we are in that holding pattern that so much of our industry is in.”

Fans shouldn’t hold their breath for Shawn Levy’s Star Wars project even after the WGA strike ends. The director still has to fulfill his commitments to both Deadpool 3 and Stranger Things season 5, the latter not expected to debut until 2025 at the earliest. While it’s sad the film won’t be seen anytime soon, it’s clear Lucasfilm is confident about Levy’s vision if they continue to keep him on.

The future of Star Wars looks brighter than ever

The announcement of these three new Star Wars movies marks an exciting time for fans of the franchise. With each movie being directed by a different filmmaker, there is sure to be a unique perspective and style brought to each project.

The focus on new characters and storylines within the Star Wars universe is also promising. While the original trilogy will always hold a special place in the hearts of fans, it’s important to keep the franchise evolving and exploring new avenues. The new Jedi order, as promised in the third movie, could provide an interesting look at the future of the Star Wars universe and the continued use and understanding of The Force.
